Botox Between the Eyebrows: Treating the “11 Lines”

11 lines

You aren’t mad.

You aren’t stressed.

You aren’t even frowning.

But sometimes your face seems to be telling everyone otherwise.

The vertical lines that develop between the eyebrows are commonly called “11 lines,” frown lines or glabellar lines.

For some people, they only appear when concentrating, squinting or frowning.

For others, those lines eventually stay visible even when the face is completely relaxed.

Ready to treat your 11 lines? Learn more about Botox in Mesa, AZ at Allure Infinite Beauty.

That’s usually when we hear:

“Why do I look angry when I’m not?”

BOTOX Cosmetic is FDA approved to temporarily improve the appearance of moderate to severe glabellar lines associated with activity of the muscles between the brows in adults.

But there’s more to treating 11 lines than simply putting Botox into the wrinkle.

At Allure Infinite Beauty in Mesa, Arizona, we want to know:

What muscles are creating the line, how strong are they, and has that repeated movement already created a crease in the skin?

Because those questions affect what Botox can realistically accomplish.

What Are “11 Lines”?

“11 lines” is simply the common name for vertical wrinkles that develop between the eyebrows.

Some patients have two obvious vertical lines that resemble the number 11.

Others may have:

  • One dominant vertical crease
  • Several smaller lines
  • A horizontal line across the bridge of the nose
  • An indentation between the eyebrows
  • A combination of different patterns

The medical term commonly used for this region is the glabella, which is why you’ll often hear injectors refer to these wrinkles as glabellar lines.

The appearance varies because facial anatomy varies.

Not everybody frowns the same way.

What Causes the Lines Between Your Eyebrows?

Several muscles help create movement around the eyebrows.

Two particularly important ones involved in glabellar lines are the:

Corrugator supercilii muscles

and

Procerus muscle

When you frown, concentrate or pull your eyebrows together, these muscles contract.

Over years of repeated movement, the skin repeatedly folds in similar locations.

BOTOX Cosmetic temporarily reduces the underlying muscle activity responsible for moderate to severe frown lines.

But muscle activity isn’t the entire aging process.

Collagen loss, sun exposure and changes within the skin can also contribute to facial lines.

That’s why we first want to determine whether we’re looking primarily at:

movement

or

a line that’s already become established in the skin.

Dynamic 11 Lines vs Static 11 Lines

Here’s an easy way to see the difference.

Stand in front of a mirror.

Completely relax your face.

Look between your eyebrows.

Now frown as hard as you can.

If the lines mostly appear when you frown:

Those are primarily dynamic lines.

Muscle contraction is creating much of what you’re seeing.

That is the type of wrinkle Botox is specifically designed to address.

If the lines remain when you’re completely relaxed:

Those are often called static lines.

The muscles may have created the wrinkle over time, but the skin itself may now retain part of that crease.

This distinction can help explain why two people receiving excellent Botox treatments may have very different-looking results.

One person’s line may virtually disappear after the muscle relaxes.

Another person’s movement may improve dramatically while a faint crease remains.

That doesn’t automatically mean the treatment failed.

Can Botox Get Rid of 11 Lines?

Botox can be very effective at temporarily improving moderate to severe frown lines associated with muscle activity.

But “get rid of” isn’t always the right promise.

If your lines only appear when you frown, relaxing those muscles may create a substantial visible change.

If you’ve had a deep crease between your eyebrows for many years—even while you’re sleeping—the line may not completely disappear simply because the muscle underneath it has relaxed.

Think of the treatment as addressing the force repeatedly folding the skin.

If the skin has already developed an established crease, it may take time for that line to soften, and other treatments may sometimes be appropriate for the skin itself.

That’s why more Botox isn’t automatically the answer to every line that remains.

How Many Units of Botox Are Used for 11 Lines?

For FDA-approved treatment of moderate to severe glabellar lines, the BOTOX Cosmetic prescribing information specifies 20 Units total.

The labeled treatment distributes those 20 Units across five sites involving the corrugator and procerus muscles.

That number is useful for education.

It is not an instruction to decide your own treatment plan.

A licensed medical provider still needs to evaluate:

  • Your anatomy
  • Muscle strength
  • Brow position
  • Facial symmetry
  • Medical history
  • Previous neuromodulator treatments
  • Treatment goals
  • Potential contraindications or risks

And remember:

20 Units of BOTOX Cosmetic does not equal 20 units of Dysport.

Botulinum toxin units are product-specific and are not directly interchangeable.

Why Are My 11 Lines So Deep?

One patient might barely create a line when they frown.

Another can create a deep crease almost instantly.

Why?

There isn’t one reason.

It can involve differences in:

Muscle strength

Some people have very strong muscles between their eyebrows.

Facial expressions

You may unconsciously frown or concentrate more frequently than you realize.

Genetics

Your facial anatomy and wrinkle patterns are partly individual.

Sun exposure

UV exposure contributes to changes in collagen and skin quality.

Skin aging

As skin changes over time, repeated folding can become more visible.

How long the line has been present

A dynamic line that appeared recently is very different from a deep crease that has remained at rest for years.

This is why comparing your Botox treatment with your friend’s can be misleading.

You don’t have their face.

Why Do 11 Lines Sometimes Make People Look Angry?

The muscles in this area pull the eyebrows inward and downward.

When those lines become deeply established, some people feel their resting expression looks:

  • Angry
  • Tense
  • Worried
  • Stressed
  • Tired
  • More serious than they feel

That doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong with having these lines.

And nobody needs to treat them.

But if your resting expression doesn’t match how you feel, that’s a perfectly reasonable cosmetic concern to discuss.

Many patients aren’t really asking:

“How do I remove this wrinkle?”

They’re asking:

“How do I stop looking upset when I’m perfectly happy?”

Understanding the goal matters.

Will Botox Between My Eyebrows Make Me Look Frozen?

Treating the glabella does reduce movement in the muscles responsible for frowning.

That’s the point of the treatment.

But “frozen” means different things to different patients.

Some people are completely comfortable having very little frown movement.

Others want significant softening while retaining more expression elsewhere.

Importantly, treating the glabella is different from relaxing the entire forehead.

Your forehead’s frontalis muscle raises the eyebrows.

The muscles between the eyebrows largely contribute to pulling them inward and downward.

Those muscles interact.

Which brings us to one of the most important concepts in upper-face Botox:

we don’t evaluate individual wrinkles in isolation.

Why Does Treating the 11 Lines Matter When Getting Forehead Botox?

This surprises a lot of first-time patients.

You come in saying:

“I only care about these forehead lines.”

And your injector starts looking between your eyebrows too.

There’s a reason.

The frontalis muscle raises the eyebrows.

Several muscles around the glabella contribute to pulling the brows downward or inward.

For FDA-approved treatment of forehead lines, BOTOX Cosmetic labeling recommends treating the forehead together with the glabellar area, resulting in a recommended total of 40 Units: 20 Units to the forehead and 20 Units to the glabellar lines.

This is about muscular balance.

It’s also why a good Botox consultation should involve watching your entire upper face move.

Can Botox Between the Eyebrows Lift the Brows?

Potentially, neuromodulator treatment around muscles that pull the brow downward can contribute to subtle changes in brow position in appropriately selected patients.

This is often part of what people refer to as a Botox brow lift.

But the word “lift” can create unrealistic expectations.

Botox does not:

  • Remove excess eyelid skin
  • Surgically reposition the eyebrow
  • Replace a surgical brow lift
  • Correct significant skin laxity

The effects we’re talking about are subtle changes in muscle balance—not surgery through a needle.

We’ll break that down separately in:

Can Botox Lift Your Eyebrows? Understanding the Botox Brow Lift

Why Do I Still Have an “11” After Botox?

This is one of the most useful things to understand before treatment.

Imagine you’ve spent 10 or 20 years repeatedly folding the same piece of skin.

Then Botox reduces the movement creating that fold.

The muscle may be appropriately relaxed.

But the crease in the skin may still be visible.

That doesn’t necessarily mean:

“I need more Botox.”

Instead, we evaluate what remains.

Can you still contract the muscle strongly?

Or is the muscle relaxed while the line remains visible?

Those represent different problems.

If the remaining concern is primarily a static skin crease, we may eventually discuss treatments aimed more directly at skin quality.

What Treatments Can Help Deep 11 Lines Besides Botox?

There isn’t one universal answer.

It depends on what the line actually looks like.

If muscle movement is still a major contributor, neuromodulator treatment may remain an important part of the plan.

If a static crease remains, treatments designed to address skin quality may sometimes be considered.

Depending on the individual, that broader conversation might include:

  • CO2 laser resurfacing
  • Microneedling
  • RF microneedling
  • Professional skincare
  • Other collagen-focused treatments

That does not mean every deep 11 line needs all of these treatments.

It means we shouldn’t automatically keep increasing Botox when we’re trying to fix a problem Botox wasn’t designed to address by itself.

What About Putting Filler Into Deep 11 Lines?

This deserves caution.

Dermal filler and Botox do very different things.

Botox reduces muscle activity.

Filler adds volume or structural support.

The area between the eyebrows contains important vascular anatomy, and filler treatment in the glabellar region can carry serious risks.

So this is absolutely not an area where someone should decide:

“The wrinkle is deep, so let’s just fill it.”

Any consideration of injectable treatment in this region requires an appropriately qualified medical provider, detailed anatomical knowledge and a careful risk-benefit discussion.

For many patients with glabellar lines, the more logical first conversation is about why the crease exists, not how to physically fill the crease.

Can Botox Prevent 11 Lines From Getting Deeper?

Because repeated muscle contraction contributes to facial lines, reducing that activity reduces the repeated folding occurring during the treatment period.

This concept is often marketed as “preventative Botox.”

But we don’t believe everyone should start Botox simply because they’ve reached a certain age.

If you don’t have a concern, you don’t need us to manufacture one.

A better question is:

“Is repeated frowning creating a line that bothers me enough to treat?”

If yes, then having the conversation makes sense.

If no, there isn’t some Botox deadline you’re missing.

What Age Should I Start Botox for 11 Lines?

There isn’t one.

Some people develop strong frown lines in their 20s.

Others don’t have significant glabellar lines until much later.

Age is only one piece of information.

We care more about:

  • Your current muscle activity
  • Whether lines remain at rest
  • Your skin quality
  • Your personal goals
  • Whether the concern actually bothers you

You don’t earn extra points for starting Botox early.

And you haven’t “waited too long” because you’re starting later.

We treat the face in front of us.

Are Men More Likely to Need More Botox Between the Brows?

Men can have greater muscle mass in certain facial areas on average, but that doesn’t mean every man needs more Botox than every woman.

That’s exactly why predetermined dosing based only on gender isn’t a great treatment philosophy.

We’ve seen:

Strong female frown muscles.

Mild male frown muscles.

And everything in between.

Your injector should evaluate your muscle activity, not just check a demographic box.

Why Is One 11 Line Deeper Than the Other?

Because faces are not perfectly symmetrical.

One corrugator may recruit more strongly.

One eyebrow may naturally sit higher.

You may habitually make slightly asymmetric facial expressions.

You may even have a single dominant crease instead of two lines.

This is another reason we ask patients to frown during the consultation.

We’re not simply looking for wrinkles.

We’re watching how you create them.

Can Botox Fix a Deep Line Immediately?

Botox is not an instant filler.

It doesn’t physically push a wrinkle outward.

BOTOX Cosmetic temporarily reduces the underlying muscle activity causing moderate to severe facial lines. Patients may begin noticing results for frown lines within 1–2 days, with full results developing over time and assessed at 30 days.

So don’t judge your treatment the evening you leave your appointment.

And don’t assume a deep static crease must disappear the moment the muscle begins relaxing.

Your provider should give you realistic expectations based on what they see before treatment.

How Long Does Botox for 11 Lines Last?

BOTOX Cosmetic states that results for frown lines may last up to four months, with treatments spaced at least 90 days apart.

That does not mean every patient will experience the exact same timeline.

And there’s an important distinction between:

some movement beginning to return

and

being completely back to your pretreatment baseline.

Patients often notice gradual return of movement before they feel the treatment has fully worn off.

We’ll go much deeper into that in:

Why Does My Botox Wear Off So Fast?

Does Botox Make Your 11 Lines Worse When It Wears Off?

Botox is temporary.

As its effects gradually diminish, muscle activity returns.

That means the movement responsible for your frown lines can return too.

Seeing your original expression lines again after months of seeing them softened can make them seem suddenly more noticeable.

But that’s different from Botox inherently making the wrinkle worse.

We’ll address this question directly in:

Does Botox Make Wrinkles Worse When It Wears Off?

Is Botox Between the Eyebrows Safe?

BOTOX Cosmetic is an FDA-approved prescription treatment for moderate to severe glabellar lines in adults, but it is still a medical treatment with contraindications, warnings and potential side effects.

The prescribing information includes a boxed warning regarding possible spread of toxin effect and lists contraindications including known hypersensitivity to botulinum toxin preparations and infection at the proposed injection site.

Potential unwanted effects can also include changes involving nearby muscles, which is one reason injection location and anatomy matter.

Common doesn’t mean casual.

You deserve to know:

  • What medication you’re receiving
  • Who is administering it
  • Why they’re placing it where they are
  • What risks apply to you
  • What symptoms would require medical attention

That’s part of informed consent.

Botox vs Dysport for 11 Lines

Botox and Dysport are both botulinum toxin products used in aesthetic medicine, but they are not the same medication.

And their units are not directly interchangeable.

So if your friend says:

“I get 50 units between my eyebrows,”

the first question should probably be:

“Fifty units of what?”

BOTOX Cosmetic units cannot simply be converted one-for-one with units from another botulinum toxin product.

We’ll cover that comparison properly in:

Botox vs Dysport: What’s Actually Different?

What Should You Tell Your Injector Before Treating Your 11 Lines?

Tell them more than:

“Make this disappear.”

Useful information includes:

  • Whether you’ve had Botox or another neuromodulator before
  • Which product you received
  • Approximately when you were treated
  • Whether you liked the result
  • Whether your eyebrows felt heavy afterward
  • Whether one brow changed position
  • How long you felt the treatment lasted
  • Whether you want maximum relaxation or more movement
  • Any medications or medical conditions relevant to treatment
  • Previous facial or eye procedures
  • Anything about the previous result you do not want repeated

The more clearly we understand the goal, the better the treatment conversation becomes.

Our Approach to 11 Lines at Allure Infinite Beauty

When someone points between their eyebrows and says:

“I hate this line.”

We don’t just look at the line.

We ask them to:

Frown.

Relax.

Raise their eyebrows.

Then we look again.

Is the crease only present with movement?

Does it remain at rest?

Are the frown muscles particularly strong?

Is one side stronger than the other?

What happens to the eyebrows when the patient frowns?

What is happening in the forehead above them?

And, most importantly:

What does the patient actually want to change?

Maybe they want the deep crease softened.

Maybe they’re more bothered that they look angry.

Maybe they’re worried about looking frozen.

Maybe they had a bad experience somewhere else.

All of those things matter.

At Allure Infinite Beauty in Mesa, we believe injectable treatment should begin with understanding the face—not simply choosing an area from a menu.

Frequently Asked Questions About Botox for 11 Lines

How many units of Botox are used for 11 lines?

The FDA-approved BOTOX Cosmetic dose for moderate to severe glabellar lines is 20 Units total, distributed across five labeled treatment sites. Individual treatment decisions should be made by an appropriately licensed healthcare provider.

What muscles cause 11 lines?

The corrugator and procerus muscles are important contributors to moderate to severe glabellar lines and are specifically identified in the BOTOX Cosmetic indication and treatment protocol.

How long does Botox take to work on 11 lines?

Patients may begin seeing results within 1–2 days, with full results developing over time and evaluated at 30 days.

How long does Botox between the eyebrows last?

BOTOX Cosmetic results for moderate to severe frown lines may last up to approximately four months. Individual results vary.

Why can I still see my 11 lines after Botox?

If the muscle activity has decreased but a line remains while the face is relaxed, part of the wrinkle may be a static crease within the skin. Botox targets muscle activity and may not completely eliminate every established skin line.

Will Botox between my eyebrows make me look less angry?

If strong frowning activity and deep glabellar lines are contributing to the appearance that bothers you, softening them may change how that region appears. Results vary, and cosmetic treatment should be based on your goals rather than a promise to create a specific expression.

Can Botox lift my eyebrows?

Changes in the balance of muscles around the brow can sometimes influence brow position, but a “Botox brow lift” is subtle and is not equivalent to surgical lifting.

Are Botox and Dysport units the same?

No. BOTOX Cosmetic dosing units are specific to that product and are not comparable to or directly convertible into units of other botulinum toxin products.

Can Botox help a deep crease that’s there when I’m not frowning?

It may help reduce the repeated muscle contraction contributing to the crease, but deeply established static lines may not disappear completely from neuromodulator treatment alone.

Is it normal to have only one “11 line”?

Yes. Facial anatomy and muscle activity aren’t perfectly symmetrical, and some people develop one dominant glabellar crease rather than two matching lines.
